California Cricket Academy

Delivered by California Cricket Academy

The Unicorns Sport Foundation has partnered with California Cricket Academy (CCA) as a strategic community partner to strengthen the physical infrastructure and grassroots pathways that young cricketers need to learn, train and compete across the Bay Area.

Building grassroots cricket infrastructure

Through a $50,000 infrastructure grant, the Foundation is supporting improvements to practice nets, turf wickets, outfields, batting cages and other cricket amenities across CCA facilities. The investment is designed to strengthen community cricket hubs capable of supporting more than 1,000 young people annually through coaching, leagues, practices and community programming.

Founded in 2003, CCA has spent more than two decades developing youth cricket and today delivers programs across communities including Cupertino and Santa Clara, Fremont, Dublin, Foster City, Palo Alto, San Francisco, San Jose and San Ramon. Its pathway spans introductory and beginner cricket through more advanced training and competitive opportunities, helping young players progress within the game close to home.

Together, the Foundation and CCA are working to reduce facility and access barriers, improve the environments in which young people experience cricket, and build sustainable community infrastructure that can serve families throughout the Bay Area for years to come.

Aspire Cricket

Delivered by Aspire Cricket

Under the Unicorns Sport Foundation, Aspire Cricket will continue the partnership as the Foundation’s Official Girls’ & Women’s Pathway Partner. This builds on a multi-year relationship with the San Francisco Unicorns centered on creating more opportunities for girls to discover, play and progress in cricket.

Growing girls’ and women’s cricket

Together, the Unicorns and Aspire have helped introduce and engage more than 250 girls through accessible cricket experiences, introductory clinics and skills-development programs. The focus has been not only on teaching the game, but on using sport to build confidence, leadership, belonging and sustained participation among girls who may otherwise have had little or no exposure to cricket.

A cornerstone of the relationship has been the annual Girls Inc. of Alameda County Discover Cricket Summer Series. Through Girls Inc.’s Eureka program, Aspire and the Unicorns have introduced cricket to groups of 75+ girls, primarily ages 13–17, from communities across Alameda County. The three-day experience combines cricket with the broader goals of the Eureka program around confidence, sisterhood, education and career readiness, creating a welcoming first experience of the sport for girls from communities traditionally underrepresented in cricket.

The next chapter of the partnership will build on these experiences to create a more connected pathway for girls and women to discover cricket, continue developing and see long-term opportunities within the sport.
